Carl Schwenn (1888-1973)

Carl Schwenn was primarily a landscape painter. He particularly sought his motifs in the areas around Tibirke and Tisvilde, where views of fields towards a high horizon, scattered tree stands, forest paths and the village's winding roads were the starting point for a large part of his paintings. The detailed idiom of early paintings changed in the 1930s, when impressions from Impressionism left their mark on the painting style. S. further developed this form of expression in later paintings such as in Place St. Julien le Pauvre, an urban environment, where a further simplification of the forms, bright colors and broad brushstrokes emerge.
